Buzz - Sherlisa Night Shadow at Nikami

Sherlisa Night Shadow at Nikami (Buzz) was bred by Miss S. Spence Of Sherlisa Great Danes, out of a brindle dog (Ch. Arondyke Arnold The Bouncer) and a fawn bitch (Sherlisa Midnight Air). 7/6/95

Buzz was my first fawn Great Dane. I bought him home at 7 weeks of age, and from that date he had always been a complete gentleman, he was what the Breed Standard describes the temperament as being. He made me fall in love with the breed more than I thought was possible.

He never quite made it as far as being a show dog, apart from the fact he only dropped 1 testicle, he was far too laid back to bother with it. He liked the more relaxing side of things, like infront of the fire, or out in the garden sunbathing.  He was shown a couple of times as a puppy, winning a Best Puppy in Breed under Peter King at Slough Open Show. Write-up in the dog world :-

"Sherlisa Night Shadow, good headed fawn dog of 8 months. Rather heavy in ear and needs to body up. BP"

He was to live the rest of his days as a pet dane, which he did a fantastic job of. He accepted every addition to the family, including 2 sheep that used to bully him, a horse he was wary of (good idea) and eventually (after about 2 months) a cat, not to mention the puppies that have hung off his ears and tail. As a puppy he grew up with Barney and Yoshi, he learnt his manners and laid-backness from Barney, and playtime was always with Yoshi, who was just 2 weeks older. I still find it amazing that a Shiba-Inu can pin down a Great Dane.

Throughout the majority of Buzz's life he spent it with China, they were inseparable, almost like they were litter mates. Whenever laying down, they would have to be physically touching, they would drink out of the same bowl, and China would always sit on him in the back of the car. When we lost China he pined quite a bit, but was then kept occupied with Shannon's puppyhood and then Taylor's and then Demi's.

Sadly at 11 1/2 years of age a decision had to be made and he crossed over to rainbow bridge on the 24th October 2006. A true gentleman, friend and companion that is sorely missed, you were one in a million Buzz!

Good night Sweet Prince xx
